- For yet another point of view... I use iw225 in a profeessional
- environment. That means that I use it pretty much every second
- that I'm at work, rely on it to manage things all by itself when
- I'm at home, and use it often for hours on end from home. 1) it
- is stable, 2) it has professional tools, 3) once you set things up
- (not hard) it works transparently in a Sun/SGI environment.
-
- What professional tools? Up front and highly visible IMHO are the
- NFS client and rlogin. Last I looked, there was nothing remotely
- as useful in AmiTCP for me as the iw225 rlogin. I often have
- 6 or 7 rlogin windows to different unix boxes running. You can
- have rlogin sit on top of a console of your choosing (such as KingCon
- so you can have a scrollbar (very useful). rlogin windows are as
- ubiquitous on my 1152x900x8 Workbench as xterms on my Amiwin
- screen, and a lot more useful. As far as the NFS client goes, it
- is fast and works completely transparently with everything on my
- Amiga, with the only exception that (of course) softlinks can't
- be referenced. I do almost all my text editing with Amiga tools
- via NFS. They are IMHO much better than what unix has to offer.
-
- No I haven't tried out the commercial AmiTCP, but I see no evidence
- that they have improved the environment wrt these two tools which
- I use most and heavily depend on. iw225 is very much worth the
- money to me (I got the 5-node license).
-
- OTOH, if you are needing simple dialup Internet access, and don't
- need the level of professional tools I do, then maybe iw225 isn't
- worth the $$ to you.
